Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts belongs to an extended family of Robertses, the 4th generation who live in the Atlanta area beginning in the family of her grand-father John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father took his first steps towards the theatre. When he was a student at Emory University in 1952 he performed in shows on campus as well as in other parts of Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. While located in Biloxi Mississippi was cast in an military production starring Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the air force. The two married in 1955, and their first son Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. The year 1957 was the year they were discharged from the air force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University. Walter was employed by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. The family moved in 1960 and relocated to Decatur Georgia. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday early morning television program that was aimed at children, that was titled Bum Bum and His Buddies from 1964. In the same year, they paid themselves. The following year they started The Actors and Writers Workshop which was in operation for six years. They had Lelisa Billingsley (also known as Lisa) as well as Julia (also called Julie) throughout this time.
